For the past 5 years, Dario Lombardo and Lisa Mallen have organized International Phil Guy Day. Lombardo is an Italian musician and good friend to Phil Guy, and Lisa Mallen was Phil’s manager. Their mission was to remember and celebrate Phil and his music during the month of April, and especially on his birthday, April 28th. They asked musicians and venues around the world to remember Phil Guy by mentioning him and performing a few of his songs at clubs, venues and festivals.

This year, the combined efforts of Phil Guy’s dedicated musician friends Dario Lombardo and Delores Scott have succeeded in bringing to fruition a special 6th International Phil Guy event that will take place during the 31st Annual Chicago Blues Festival. The Tribute to Phil Guy will be on Saturday, June 14th at the Pepsi Front Porch Stage from 3-4 PM. The performance will include Dario Lombardo, Delores Scott, members of the Phil Guy and The Chicago Machine band, and other musician friends.
Phil Guy is the youngest brother of legendary musician Buddy Guy. Phil followed his older brother’s footsteps, and Buddy’s encouraging guidance in the early 1970’s, by performing with Buddy’s band throughout the U.S. and the world. Phil broke out on his own in the 1990’s, forming his own band, Phil Guy and The Chicago Machine. He continued to perform nationally and internationally until his death on August 20th, 2008. He would be 74 this year.
