Know Your Buddy Openers: Week 1

In this four part series, we take a closer look at the talented musicians opening for Buddy. This week: January 5th – January 8th.

January 5th: Lazer Lloyd 

(TICKETS) This remarkable Israeli blues-rocker has a wild edge. Downbeat Magazine praised Lazer’s “exuberant vocals and razor sharp guitar work,” while Vintage Guitar magazine featured him as a talent to watch showing off his chops on “tough blues-rockers, soul ballads, and funky Hendrix-inspired rock”.  He’s also a songwriter – check out his original tune, “My Own Blues.”

January 6th: Mike Wheeler

(TICKETS) Delmark artist Mike Wheeler has performed with everyone from Koko Taylor and BB King to Buddy Guy and Shemekia Copeland. He’s traveled the world playing the blues. His upbeat shows featuring screaming electric guitar, but also highlight his talented band with intense bass solos and rocking piano. January 7th: Guy King

(TICKETS) Delmark Recording artist Guy King is one of Chicago’s up and coming stars. His guitar playing is a devastating mix of good phrasing, classy lines, and dirty blues. Hailed by the Baltimore BluesRag as “The Velvet Hurricane,” his 2016 album “Truth” hit #1 at the Roots Music Report Contemporary Blues Album Chart.  Watch him play a tribute to Buddy Guy at the city of Chicago’s Fifth Star Awards or check out this Artist Series interview.

January 8th: Jamiah Rogers

(TICKETS) Blues prodigy Jamiah Rogers is only recently old enough to get into blues bars, but he’s been playing them for years. He immediately evokes Hendrix with his high energy electric solos.
