Oak Cliff native Jimmie Vaughan joins fellow blues music legends Buddy Guy and John Mayall as headliners for the 2013 Bedford Blues & BBQ Festival, it was announced today. The annual event sprawls over Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31-Sept. 1, boasting two stages at the outdoor venue across the street from the Bedford City Hall Complex, 2000 Forest Ridge Drive in Bedford.
Vaughan, brother of the late blues legend Stevie Ray Vaughan, is the respected, Grammy-winning founder of the Fabulous Thunderbirds, one of the coolest blues-rock-soul bands ever to hit the national scene. Now Austin-based, Vaughan has carved a cool solo career with stellar albums such as 1994′s Strange Pleasure and his pair of cover discs, 2010′s Plays Blues, Ballads & Favorites and 2011′s Plays More Blues, Ballads & Favorites. Vaughan takes the stage Aug. 31 at 9:15 p.m.

Blues royalty Mayall, who literally is an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, is considered the father of British blues. With his famed Bluesbreakers band, Mayall has jammed alongside luminaries Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Dave Navarro and countless others. At 79, Mayall is still a guitar playing, blues singing dynamo onstage. He performs Aug. 31 at 7:45 p.m.
Finally we have Buddy Guy, a Bedford Blues & BBQ Festival veteran making his third appearance at the event. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member and six-time Grammy winner keeps energizing us with his rock-soaked brand of Chicago blues. He’s still recording, his most recent album was 2010′s Living Proof, and he’s teaching the young guns the gritty art of blues guitar slinging and singing by example. Guy performs Sept. 1 at 9:15 p.m.
Gates open at 2 p.m. each day with daily general admission lawn seating tickets at $5. Check out more individual ticket prices and group packages at bedfordbluesbbq.com.
