B.B. King was back in Chicago this past Friday night for a show at The House of Blues. A statement on his web site said, “Mr. King fell ill last night, Oct 3 2014 during his performance at the House of Blues in Chicago. He was immediately evaluated by a doctor and diagnosed with dehydration and suffering from exhaustion whereby causing the eight remaining shows of his current tour to be cancelled.”
I remember talking to B.B. at a 93XRT New Year’s Eve show at Chicago’s Union Station. I asked him where he was living now. He said, “Here.” Surprised I asked if he meant here in Chicago. He said, “No. Here, on the road.” The nearly constantly touring 89 year old bluesman has now canceled the remainder of his tour, a total of eight gigs.
There have been no further updates on B.B.’s condition. The only additional statement from one of his representatives was, “Simply put, it was a bad night for one of America’s living blues legends and Mr King apologizes and humbly asks for the understanding of his fans.”
