Trip To The Water Tower

Trip To The Water Tower
from a fan who wished to remain anonymous.

watertowerAbout 11 years ago I was shot in a bar fight. I was in the hospital for 57 days. I was first accused of shooting a gun as well, so I was under arrest in the hospital. I was in and out of consciousness, I was detoxing from alcohol and Xanax (not by choice mind you). I could not call my family, I had no idea what was going on. The doctors said I was crazy and I really started to believe them. I had started to hallucinate and some of the medications they gave me had really bad effects on me. They later found out I had a strange blood disease caused by mold. I was living in Florida, and the building I worked in had a bad mold problem. I thought I was going to lose my leg (this is where I had been shot).

Well this is how Blues comes into play in this story. I slipped into a coma, and while I laid there I felt like I was in a water tower. Janis Joplin, Stevie Ray, Jimi – they were all there with me. The music was so awesome and the feeling was warm and I knew this was it. I was in Heaven and I was going to be ok. Then, out of the top of the water tower, Mr. Buddy Guy reached in and said, “It’s not your time Don,” and pulled me out.

Now, I know this sounds crazy and I have only shared this with a few close friends but this is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. To this day, I owe the great people in this story my life- not to mention the staff at the WPB Hospital. I did not lose my leg, I did not shoot anyone, I made it. And I will always remember that “trip to the water tower.”
