Muddy Waters famously said, “The blues had a baby, and they called it rock’n’roll.” In this ongoing series we’re looking at songs that were recorded by blues artists that went on to become rock’n’roll tunes. Sometimes the original artists were credited by the rockers, sometimes the songs were just taken. In this installment: “Hound Dog.” It was made famous by Elvis Presley, but it was originally done by Big Mama Thornton. This smoking version features Buddy Guy on guitar! Give it a listen:

ROCK’N’ROLL COVER: HOUND DOG, ELVIS PRESLEY – 1956
