Carlos Showers Assaulted, Robbed Near Home

Carlos ShowersOur thoughts are with guitarist Carlos Showers, who was hospitalized and robbed last night after being assaulted near his home.

The attackers, who also stole Showers’ guitar, broke his nose, and caused him to suffer multiple bruises. He is being released from the hospital this morning.

“He’s doing better,” said Mike Wheeler, bandleader and a friend/collaborator of Showers. Carlos was on his way to perform at Blues on Halsted when an unknown number of assailants attacked him in the dark.

“I guess they got him from behind,” Wheeler added. “He never saw them.”

Showers, a longstanding fixture of the Chicago blues scene, has played with several notable musicians–Jimmy Johnson, Sheryl Youngblood, Lindsey Alexander–and also fronts his own band.

If anyone has any information, please alert the authorities. Either way watch your back. It’s a cold world.
